Could have different food items in jars and take controlled pictures from the same angle every day for several weeks and put it together in a time-lapse sequence with a presentation connected to each groups decomposing food item. Students could identify the decomposer as part of the presentation and give facts on it. Graphs of decay by measuring the height change of the food item as it collapses down...?
